A few days ago I discovered that an unauthorized, AI-generated audiobook of my young adult novella, The Sea at Mughain, was available for download on two different podcasts on Spotify. At least one of these podcasts included a link to a very shady-looking website claiming to offer a download of the full text of the book, as well as an audiobook. I reported the matter to Spotify, and they have removed the audiobook while things are under investigation.
This book means a lot to me, and it is mine. I am sad and annoyed for this to happen. It takes a long time to make an audiobook. It only takes a few minutes to generate one using AI. This makes it extremely easy to steal an author's work.
My listeners on Spotify did nothing wrong. My book was offered alongside the other audiobooks. Thank you for listening, and for leaving good reviews. I'm so glad you liked the story.
To my fellow authors and artists: set a watch, and keep a weather eye. This sort of thing is becoming very common.
